Albert Einstein's insights into how the universe works were first revealed in 1905 with the publication of four monographs. One of these was his study "On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies," which introduced his theory of gravitation and his view on special relativity. Continuing his inquiries, he found special relativity too restrictive and so formulated his theory of general relativity in the publication of "On the Relativity Principle and the Conclusions Drawn from It" in 1907. A few years later, he posited his general theory of relativity in his paper "On the Influence of Gravitation on the Propagation of Light," published in 1911. Following the validation of Einstein's theories during the solar eclipse of May 29, 1919, this edition of Relativity, a translation of an earlier work published in Germany, was published by Methuen in the UK and Henry Holt in the US. It, and the award of the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics brought Einstein's theories to the attention of the general public.
